Interactive broker rates high with tempting margin rates, ESG functions

Attractive margin rates and new portfolio management features are critical tools for investors, and Interactive Brokers (IBKR) excelled in both areas in Investor’s Business Daily’s ninth annual Best Online Brokers survey.

Thanks to the industry’s low margin rates and new tools such as the Impact Dashboard, Interactive Brokers was able to achieve another top 5 result in the overall customer experience in the latest IBD survey of the best online brokers. The survey results can help investors determine if Interactive Brokers is right for them.

Interactive Brokers has reached the top 5 in each of the last six years.

The awards are based solely on customer ratings. For the survey, IBD, in collaboration with the survey company TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence, asked more than 5,000 investors to rate the performance of their primary online broker in 15 categories. The categories were determined through a separate survey in which more than 500 investors rated the importance of various broker attributes.

That year, Interactive Brokers ranked heavily in terms of trade execution speed / price, options trading platform, margin investment / interest rate, portfolio analysis & amp; Reports and access to IPOs.

Interactive Brokers remains at the forefront of trade execution. According to IHS Markit, a third-party transaction analytics provider, the broker’s US stock price executions were well above the industry average in the first half of 2020. Industry-low margin rates with interactive brokers

Interactive Brokers took second place in the margin investing / interest rate attribute, just behind Tastyworks.

It offers margin rates as low as 0.75% for the IBKR Pro level. According to Interactive Brokers, IBKR Lite is intended for retail investors, whose lowest margin rate is 2.59%.

In comparison, Tastyworks has first-tier margin rates as low as 5% on debit balances of $ 1,000,000 and above. Interactive Brokers’ lower margin rate will have a big impact, especially for investors who hold large margin balances for extended periods of time.

Interactive versions affect the dashboard

In October 2020, Interactive Brokers launched its Impact Dashboard to help clients evaluate and invest in companies that align with their values. With the Impact Dashboard, investors can choose their personal investment criteria from 13 impact values, including Clear Air, gender equality, racial equality and other principles.

« The future of sustainable investing begins with the Impact Dashboard, which allows investors to align their portfolios with their values, » said Will Peterffy, ESG director at Interactive Brokers, in a press release. « In a world without transparency, the dashboard quickly analyzes and evaluates your equity portfolio based on your values and presents your holdings through a personalized impact lens. »

ESG investments, which prioritize environmental, social and corporate governance issues, continued to grow in 2020. The inflow of ESG ETFs rose to $ 97 billion in 2020, according to Track Insight. ESG ETF assets grew 223% to $ 189 billion, and nearly 200 ESG ETFs were launched during the year.

Obviously, the ESG trend is not going to go away anytime soon. With Interactive Brokers you can create and maintain your personal ESG strategy.

Access to top-class IPOs

There were a number of high profile IPOs in 2020 including Airbnb (ABNB), DoorDash (DOOR), and Snowflake (SNOW). Interactive was among the top five brokers for IPO access in the 2021 Best Online Brokers.

According to the company, IB is overseeing upcoming IPOs and endeavoring to give clients the opportunity to place orders prior to the day trading begins in the secondary market.

While Interactive Brokers has a strong rating in this category, access to IPOs remains a low priority for investors.
